In what ways does our Inner Critic block us from taking advantage of all that is available for our growth and healing? How can we help our Inner Critic  become an ally rather than a tyrant? How do we introduce our Inner Nurturer as a balance to our Inner Critic?
What We Resist Persists
Until now the Inner Critic, which can indeed cause intense suffering, has been treated as an enemy by most therapeutic systems. This attempt to destroy the Inner Critic has often served to strengthen it. We have found that when its message is properly understood, the Inner Critic can become a powerful ally in our journey towards growth and wholeness.

All are welcome. Feel free to share this invitation. Private sessions are always available by appointment.

- based on the work of Drs.Hal and Sidra Stone the originators of Voice Dialogue, the Psychology of Selves and authors of the book Embracing Your Inner Critic. The book makes for a good read and is available in audio as well as paperback. It is NOT required reading. For imore nfo on Voice dialogue and the book www.voicedialogueinternational.com

Join our small supportive group and learn how to loosen the grip of the Inner Selves that hold your discomfort and pain. Each week you will experience the facilitation of a new Inner Self and its polar opposite.
The following Inner Selves will be facilitated:
Driven and Laid Back
Control and Surrender
Self Reliant and Dependent
Guarded and Vulnerable

Through Voice Dialogue, the Psychology of Selves facilitation (as developed by Drs.Hal and Sidra Stone,  (voicedialogueinternational.com), you will experience how to bring these Selves into a balance and interrupt the discomfort - fear cycle. (The Pain Reprocessing Therapy Workbook by Venessa Blackstone, pgs.33-40 has a good description of Inner Selves (they call Protective Parts), and some good suggestions on how to start working with them.)
You will be guided to experience these Selves one by one, embody them, listen to each side, feel and see the world through their perspective as you come to understand both their gifts and their limitations. You will learn how to befriend them without being taken over by them. How to sit in balance between them. The group is kept small so that each participant has space and time to unfold their own process

Reserve your place by emailing [email protected] Feel free to contact iudita with any questions. Individual sessions are always available.

SELVES TO SOBRIETY and SITTING WITH SELVES MEDITATION
Individual sessions
Learn powerful tools for enhancing and supporting your addiction recovery journey. All participants must be in a recovery process. Beginners to recovery, people who have relapsed and are back in recovery, and people with long term recovery can benefit. The process is not affiliated with AA but it is in line with AA’s understanding of addiction. These individual ZOOM sessions lead you through a series of self awareness exercises designed to increase your conscious contact with parts of yourself referred to as Selves. You may find that some of these Selves are over expressed in your personality, and some are under expressed. As polarized inner selves are brought into balance, a Sober Consciousness emerges. Selves to Sobriety is combined with Sitting with Selves contemplation. Together they become a powerful skill set for enhancing and supporting your recovery.

Sensory Awareness while Eating
In each session you will practice tuning into your body while you are eating using unique Body Awareness exercises. These exercises reconnect you to the natural signals your body sends to you while you are eating. Learn to differentiate between the messages you receive from your rational mind, mouth, heart, and belly.
Voice Dialogue Facilitation
Get to know the polarities that struggle within, such as the Body Dictator and the Rebel Eater, the Emotional Eater and the Inner Nurturer, the Hungry Wolf and the Vulnerable Child, the Pleaser and the Boundary Setter, the Thinking Mind and the Feeling Body. As these and other Selves are brought into conscious balance, a stronger more stable awareness emerges, the Aware Ego process. This awareness gives you the freedom to tune into your senses, your emotions, and your thinking, building a unified experience of yourself.
Sitting with Selves contemplation, a Middle Ground practice
Learn the powerful contemplative practice of Sitting with Selves. Gain the ability to use this practice in your daily life and watch how the care for yourself improves both emotionally and physically.

Mindful Eating Facilitation is a cutting edge use of the Voice Dialogue process originated by Drs. Hal and Sidra Stone and applied to self nourishment by iudita Harlan.

PAST WORKSHOPS
FEARFUL SELF  +  CALM SELF  =  realistic self care
Three session series
Contrary to what many of us have been taught, trying to get rid of our fear only makes it stronger. As the saying goes, "what we resist persists." But how then can we change our habitual fear responses?
Through Voice Dialogue, the Psychology of Selves facilitation (developed by Drs.Hal and Sidra Stone), we do not change our Inner Fearful Self. We befriend it. We contact the self directly, listening to its concerns and messages. We come to understand its gifts as well as its limitations. We also get to know our Calm Self, its messages, its gifts, and its limitations. Having access to both of these Selves, being in charge of how and when we use them, we move into an empowered freedom of choice in relationship to ourselves, our environment, and others.

Why do we experience fear?
Fear is an instinctual physical and emotional reaction that helps us detect and respond to threats and dangers in our environment. It prepares our body to fight or flee or freeze. It hyper focuses our mind so we can use it for surviving dangerous situations.
How does a habitual pattern of fear affect us? When we feel fear these days, it is not  because we are being chased by predators. Yet the physical responses we experience are the same even if the threat is low. Since our body believes we must prepare to fight or run or freeze, our muscles tighten, we become hyper vigilant, adrenaline rushes in. Fear and anxiety causes metabolic responses, and prolonged stress can cause physical and emotional reactions that can affect our long-term mental and physical health.
Let's learn together how to befriend our strong reactions and gain breathing room and balance in relationship to them.
Feel free to reach out to me with any questions.

-   why it is overexpressed in some situations and under expressed in others
 -  feel the freedom of the Carefree Self
-   know how to incorporate the Carefree Self and its  joys and ease

A CONTINUED LOOK AT OUR RELATIONSHIPS
Through Voice Dialogue group facilitations, Sitting with Selves meditation and self reflection, we look at our relationship patterns, the energetic reality and interaction of Selves, and the potential for growth they bring us.

Is there anything that brings us more joy, more angst or more confusion than the dynamics of our relationships? A “bad" boss can ruin our days and sometimes our nights. A difficult parent can lead us into a life long struggle to get along with them, and with others who remind us of them. Our friend irritates us, our significant other drives us mad, a new lover starts reminding us of the old one.
Is there a way to look at relationship difficulties through a new perspective? Can relationships, (not just romantic ones), and the challenges they bring become an exciting road to self knowledge, personal growth and real empowerment?
Controlled by the Selves - Drs. Stone’s theory of bonding patterns provides us with an easy to understand technology of relationship. Learn how difficulties can be a source of creative change, of greater ability to have choice in behavior, and ultimately can lead us to more nourishing connections.
Energetics - modern science and ancient wisdom both teach about the importance of what is not seen, of the field that surrounds matter, of how interactions feel to us. The emphasis on the energetics of relationship in Voice Dialogue enables us to work directly with this field in our interpersonal life.

MAKE PEACE WITH YOUR INNER CRITIC and
EMBRACE  YOUR INNER NURTURER

This group is open to anyone who would like to experience more self compassion and less self criticism. Experience with voice dialogue is not necessary. No matter how much growth, self care, personal achievement and insight we gain, for some of us our Inner Critic has many ways to block our souls desire. As Dr. Hal Stone often said, "The Inner Critic is probably the most intelligent of all the Selves, finding ways to block us both coming and going.” This is especially true when we feel vulnerable in a situation.
We will practice embracing our INNER CRITIC and our INNER NURTURER. You will have an opportunity to explore this powerful polarity and to experience the centered consciousness and wise pause that the Aware Ego process provides.
The Inner Critic is found in the shadow of many symptoms such as overeating, over working, stress related illnesses, mental confusion and obsessive thinking. It is the destructive voice that lurks in our unconscious creating feelings of unworthiness, depression and fueling addictions. Until now the Inner Critic, which does indeed cause intense suffering, has been treated as an enemy by most therapeutic systems.
Attempts to destroy the Inner Critic only serve to strengthen it. What we resist persists. "What were you thinking? You look terrible, too fat, too short, too old, too tall. You are such a loser, what will they think? I can't believe you did that, said that, felt that, wore that!"  Sound familiar? Welcome to your Inner Critic.
How can we feel good about ourselves when we have such a harsh inner voice talking to us? Drs. Hal and Sidra Stone are the originators of Voice Dialogue and authors of the book, Embracing Your Inner Critic. They created a consciousness process that transforms the Inner Critic from a crippling adversary to a productive ally.
Iudita uses Voice Dialogue Group Facilitation and Sitting with Selves Meditation to help you learn how to recognize the underlying anxieties and vulnerability of your Inner Critic, how to embrace your Inner Critic, while also embracing your Inner Nurturer, and most importantly, how your Inner Critic can become an intelligent, perceptive, and supportive partner in your life.
Recommended but not necessary readings: Embracing Your Inner Critic by Drs. Stone, The Path of Relationship by Dianne Braden, Jungian Analyst.

BEYOND TRAUMA
A Two-Day Workshop for Descendants of Holocaust Survivors
August 24 & 25, 2019
San Francisco, California

Three therapists, who are themselves children of Jewish Holocaust survivors, come together to offer two days of exploration, transformation and healing for members of the first, second and third generation.
Iudita Harlan joins two powerful therapists,
Armand Volkas, LMFT (MFC#28789), RDT/BCT.
Sylvia Israel, LMFT, (MFC#31245), TEP, RDT/BCT

Using the power of sharing our stories with other descendants of Holocaust survivors, we will illuminate, explore and where needed, transform the impact of our historical legacy. Honoring the lives of our ancestors, we will focus on the effect our historical inheritance has had on our beliefs, our bodies and our spirits. Drawing from various experiential methods we will examine our individual intergenerational trauma and give creative shape and meaning to our legacy.
